Why a Barbeque Is So Much Fun!

Step outside on just about any weekend day during the summer and chances are you will smell the nice smell of someone cooking on the barbeque grill. This holds true for holidays such as the 4th of July, Memorial Day, and Labor Day. The main reasons that barbeques are so great are that the food tastes so great when it comes off of a grill, and it is time for family and friends to gather. Barbeques provide some of the most memorable moments of a lifetime.

There needs to be adequate planning to pull off a great BBQ. Put out a "feeler" to potential guests to see if there are any conflicts in people's schedule. I have found that as long as you plan in advance scheduling is not an issue. Weather also plays a major role in planning a successful outdoor cooking party. Most of us are not meteorologists, but some common sense applies. Do not schedule a cookout during the rainy season or times when it is excessively hot. In case of an unwanted thunderstorm or rain shower, have a backup plan. Indoor parties can be just as fun as long as you are prepared.

Barbecuing has been around since man discovered fire. Once the Neanderthals figured out that food tasted better on an open fire, BBQ's have been popular. Now, even though a barbeque is a gathering, there would be no event at all without meat. All meats are good on a grill, and thankfully there is a great variety of meats to choose from when it comes to setting a menu for your next BBQ gathering.

Preparation should take place 12 - 24 hours in advance. Set the menu first then visit the grocery store. There are many things to take into consideration such as spices needed, condiments, and sides. Are you going to make or buy certain items such as potato salad, beans, etc? Lastly, no party would be complete without an alcoholic beverage for those who choose to imbibe. Once the grocery list is complete, it is time to prep everything. Do you need to marinate the meat? Don't forget the sauce! The barbeque sauce is one of the most important parts of the cooking.

During certain holidays or events you may want to have themed event. If it is themed then get decorations, tablecloths, napkins and plates to add to the decor. A luau theme is fairly cheap because you could buy some leis and tiki torches and there you have a Hawaiian theme.

You should be prepared for the party and the area should be set up before guests arrive. Depending on the situation and what you are cooking, you may want to have the food already cooking on the grill. Depending on the time frame you may have some appetizers to cook first. I personally like to grill some stuffed jalapeƱos prior to cooking the main course.

Fun Cooking Ideas With Chocolate

The western world has a mild obsession with chocolate, and rightly so. Not only is it delicious, but it is also good for your health. Dark chocolate is full of antioxidants. Some brands of chocolate, such as Xocai, have more antioxidants than red wine or even acai berries. Chocolate also creates a hormonal reaction when consumed that feels a lot like sexual afterglow or falling in love. Dark chocolate is full of a good kind of saturated fat that can help boost brain function in ways similar to fish oil, and it is satisfying enough to eat in small quantities. Chocolate has non-food applications in skin care products and make-up, and there are endless products available that showcase its properties, from confections to body wraps. One of the best ways to enjoy the benefits of chocolate is to cook with it. Here are some great ways to cook with chocolate.

1. In drinks
Drinking chocolate has become a popular delivery method for chocolate consumption in recent years. It is a combination of melted chocolate and cream, as opposed to the cocoa powder/sugar/milk combination usually used in hot cocoa. It is a thick and rich chocolate drink that seems to send those happy chocolate feelings straight to your toes. To make drinking chocolate, combine 2 oz heavy cream with 6 oz of milk in a saucepan. Add a cinnamon stick and a vanilla bean that has been split down the middle. Heat the infused milk mixture very slowly for 15-20 minutes. Remove the vanilla bean and the cinnamon stick and add 2 oz finely chopped or grated dark chocolate. Heat, stirring, until chocolate is fully melted. Top with whipped cream and a dusting of powdered cinnamon.

Chocolate makes an excellent smoothie addition. Combine 1/4c hot cocoa mix with 8 oz milk. Add in 1 frozen banana and 1/2 of an avocado. Blend until creamy. If dairy is not an option for you, water or coffee can be exchanged for the milk.

2. In Mousse
Mousse is a fluffy, decadent use for chocolate that doesn't have to be too sweet. Here is a recipe that combines coffee with chocolate for one of the fluffiest mousses out there:
12 oz grated dark chocolate
4 eggs
6 oz hot coffee
Blend together eggs and chocolate for 1 minute. With blender running, add coffee in a smooth stream. Mixture should froth up and fill blender. Pour into dessert cups and refrigerate for at least an hour, if you can stand it.

3. Chocolate cups
Chocolate can be used as a delivery method for some other decadent dessert by making thin cups out of it. Using good melted chocolate, spread it in a thin layer over baking cups. Refrigerate at least one hour or until hard. Remove from refrigerator and peel off baking cups. The resulting chocolate cups can now be filled with whipped cream or frosting or filled with custard and fruit to make little chocolate tarts.

4. In savory foods
Chocolate isn't just for dessert anymore. The benefits and rich flavor of chocolate can be had in savory foods, as well. It is a popular secret ingredient in chili recipes. Cocoa, especially when combined with bacon or cinnamon in a chili recipe, adds incredible depth to the flavor of the chili, without ever imparting a specific chocolate flavor. Cocoa can also be added to savory breads and stews in the same way coffee might, to deepen the flavor and enrich the color.

Art Investment and Its Value

It is time we should learn to invest our money so our money grows. It is no longer enough to keep them in banks because the interest is low. It is no longer enough. Besides, financial experts say that we need to have passive income and this income should be spent for the things that we want. Our active income such as our salaries can be used for the things that we need. So the money spent for our gadgets such as cellular phones, laptops and others should be from our passive income and not the other way around. This is the technique that financial experts say that will make us rich.

The next question is where can we get our passive income? Well, that's where investments come in and right now the most appealing investment is art investment because of the fact that so far it has not been affected by the financial crisis that has affected all the other forms of investment and stocks worldwide.

So when you buy art and you think that it is of value, you better take care of it. This includes the transportation of the art pieces so you better make sure that you have a vehicle large enough to move your art pieces. It does get to be moved around a lot right. When you display it, always make sure that it is protected especially from the sun and the rain. Document each art work that you bought. This includes size, condition, type of artwork and all the identifying markings on it. It takes a lot of hard work but remember it is an art investment and the financial returns will be worth it.

The Art of Knitting

The feature was inspired by the launch of a book charting their work - In the Loop: Knitting Now by Jessica Hemmings who is currently Associate Director of the Centre for Visual and Cultural Studies at the Edinburgh College of Art, Scotland.

In the Loop unveils the cultural impact of knitting investigating issues such as protest knitting, international knitting traditions, the oral history of knitting and knitting technology. Knitting was originally a way to make a living - but over the years this distinct craft turned into a dreary and unfashionable skill associated with a dying generation. But in recent years, knitting has made a huge comeback spawning knit clubs, shops, books, activities and even knitting conferences. Knitting has clearly gone a long way from the dull image of ill-fitting jumpers, clumpy socks or overly long and wonky scarves. What's more, what was a lonely hobby for 'old maids' has become a social trend for twenty-somethings as well as a mainstream craft.

Some of the contemporary knitters in Hemmings' book include Freddie Robins who strives for perfection in her craft, knitting a series of knitted people such as the aptly named 'The Perfect Body'. Mark Newport is a knitter who knits superhero outfits not for fancy dress but to raise deep questions on masculinity, heroism and alter egos. Another big designer featured in the book is Deirdre Nelson who is known for her humour and ability to master traditional techniques

Photography Business - The Fine Art Photography

All of the photos that express and meet an artist's creative vision are called fine art photography. This isn't the same as the commercial photographs and journalism that support the stories being published in printed media (newspapers, magazines, etc.). With commercial pictures the target is awfully clear: to sell a service. Then, photojournalism is necessary for any kind of magazine that utilizes documentaries. With this kind of photography business, keep in mind that this isn't concerned in any of these kinds of services; it just makes the artistic side of the job.

There are some genres that define this type of photography, which include natural landscapes, portraits and nudes. The last twenty years have seen a rise in the number of photography exhibitions around the globe. It's now considered very fashionable to use prints and frames for such photography too. Many galleries nowadays display photos on boards without glass. The size of the prints differs depending on the purpose and the theme of the photo. It's quite a fact that the beauty of such photos are undeniable!

In very artistic representations, photos can be staged and lit so a new dimension is being added to the photographer's vision. Furthermore, things have changed a lot with the arrival of full spectrum photography, thanks to the current digital technologies and complex cameras. The artist can now achieve a lot of effects by filtering ultraviolet light, visible light and infrared. Just as the technologies have improved, so does the printing, giving a lot of options to the artistic photographers.

Picture Framing Supplies For the Art Gallery

Gallery owners will want to spend a bit of time learning about picture framing. If you can frame your fine art photographs and paintings yourself, you will save a great deal of money, which is important considering the amount of artwork that will come through a gallery during the course of a year. You can purchase picture supplies in bulk and keep them on hand, so you will have everything at the ready that you will need for framing artwork.

The easiest way to get started with framing is to work with picture framing kits. These include everything you need to end up with a framed piece of art, such as the frame, glazing, mat and mount boards, and a mechanism for hanging the picture. You will want to price out individual art framing supplies and then compare that to picture framing kits to see which will be the most economical for use in the gallery setting.

Picture frames are the key component of the art framing supplies that you will need. Frames come as ready-made or custom-made picture framing supplies, with differences including ready-mades come in several commonly used sizes and are less expensive than custom-mades, but with custom-mades you have complete control over the size and final appearance of the frame that will enclose your artwork.

Other picture framing supplies that you will need include glazing. Glazing is available in glass or acrylic. Glass offers the greatest protection from scratches, but is quite heavy and may have a green tinge. Acrylic is perfectly clear and lightweight, and may also be made of conservation quality materials so that the surface of the artwork is protected from harmful ultraviolet light and pollution damage.

Mat and mount boards are other picture supplies used in conjunction with the picture frame and glazing. Mat boards are art framing supplies that are used to provide another border to the artwork and to protect its surface. Moisture is a prime culprit which, if it becomes trapped inside a framed picture, will wreak havoc on the artwork and damage the surface. A bit of space and air circulation is provided by using a matboard inside the frame, and this helps to alleviate the problem.

Mount boards are framing and matting supplies that form the base upon which the artwork is placed. Picture framing kits will often include mount board, but the framer will also want to have on hand some product to affix the artwork to the mountboard. Picture corners or hinge tape are available in archival quality, and these framing and matting supplies work well for this purpose.
